What is IELTS 9?

IELTS 9 is an AI-powered preparation platform for the International English Language Testing System — the world's most widely accepted English-proficiency exam, taken by more than 3 million candidates a year for university admission, professional registration, immigration, and work visas. We're named after the highest possible IELTS band: a 9.0, the “expert user.”

The platform covers all four IELTS skills — Writing, Speaking, Reading, and Listening — and grades every response against the official band descriptors published by Cambridge, the British Council, and IDP. Where a private tutor returns one annotated essay in three days for $30 to $60, IELTS 9 returns examiner-grade feedback on every essay, every cue card response, and every mock test in about sixty seconds — for less than the price of a coffee per week.

IELTS 9 is built for candidates who want a real Band 7, Band 8, or Band 9 — not a vague “passing” score. The platform builds a personalised study plan from a 60-second skill diagnosis, surfaces the precise criteria holding your band back, and gets you to your target band — whether that's a 6.5 for Canada PR, a 7.0 for nursing registration, or an 8.0 for a scholarship.

You can practise on the web at ielts9.io or on the iOS app, with progress synced across both. Free tools — a band score calculator, word counter, speaking timer, and essay topic generator — are available without an account.

The four IELTS skills, scored individually

Your overall band is the average of all four — rounded to the nearest 0.5. A weak skill drags the whole score down, so IELTS 9 trains each skill with the same official band descriptors examiners use.

IELTS Writing

Task 1 (graphs, charts, maps, process diagrams, letters in General Training) and Task 2 (a 250-word essay) are graded on Task Achievement, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy. IELTS 9 returns essay-level feedback against the official Cambridge band descriptors in about 60 seconds — pinpointing the exact criterion that is holding your band back.

Practise Writing

IELTS Speaking

An 11–14 minute face-to-face interview split into three parts: a warm-up, a 2-minute long turn from a cue card, and an abstract discussion. Bands depend on Fluency and Coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Range and Accuracy, and Pronunciation. Practice with thousands of real cue cards and get scored speech feedback the moment you finish speaking.

Practise Speaking

IELTS Reading

60 minutes, 40 questions, three Academic passages (or three General Training sections of increasing difficulty). Your raw score out of 40 is converted to a band — a 6.5 typically needs 27 correct in Academic, 7.0 needs 30, 8.0 needs 35. Sharpen skimming, scanning, and time management with timed mock passages and instant explanations.

Practise Reading

IELTS Listening

30 minutes of audio plus 10 minutes transfer time on paper-based tests, with four recordings and 40 questions. The same band conversion applies — 30/40 is roughly 7.0, 35/40 is 8.0. Train on accent variety (UK, Australian, New Zealand, North American) and the four question types that cause most band drops: matching, map labelling, sentence completion, and multiple choice.

What does each IELTS band mean?

IELTS bands run from 0 to 9 in half-band increments. Most universities ask for a 6.5, most immigration programs for a 6.0 to 7.0, and professional bodies for 7.0 to 7.5. A 9 is the rare “expert user” level — the namesake of this platform.

Why students choose IELTS 9

Examiner-grade AI scoring

Every Writing essay and Speaking response is graded against the exact public-band descriptors from Cambridge / British Council / IDP — the same rubric used by real examiners. Feedback returns in about 60 seconds.

Personalised study plan

A 60-second diagnostic builds a plan around your weakest criterion — not generic drills. Students who follow the plan typically see a 0.5 to 1.0 band lift in two to four weeks.

Cheaper than a single tutor session

A private IELTS tutor charges $30 to $60 per hour and returns one essay in three days. IELTS 9 costs less than a coffee per week and grades unlimited essays, cue cards, and mock tests instantly.

Web and iOS, fully synced

Practise on the web at ielts9.io or in the iOS app. Your essays, speaking recordings, and band-progress chart sync automatically — pick up where you left off.

Real band gains from real students

I went from a Speaking 5.5 to a 7.0 in five weeks. The AI flagged the exact pronunciation patterns my tutor never noticed — chunking, falling intonation on statements, the small things examiners actually grade.
Ahmed K. · Band 7.0 overall
My Writing was stuck at 6.0 for half a year. I started getting feedback on every essay through IELTS 9 and walked into the real exam confident. Final result: 8.0 in Writing and an offer from Monash.
Jimin K. · Band 8.0 Writing
Used this on my commute every day. Speaking moved from 5.0 to 6.5 and Writing from 5.5 to 7.0 — comfortably above the CRS threshold I needed for Canada PR.

Frequently asked questions

Everything below is published as structured data so search engines and AI assistants can cite it directly.

What is IELTS 9?

IELTS 9 is an AI-powered preparation platform for the IELTS exam, named after the highest possible IELTS band (9.0, the 'expert user' level). It grades Writing essays and Speaking responses against the official Cambridge / British Council / IDP band descriptors in about 60 seconds, and builds a personalised study plan to lift your overall band. The platform covers all four skills — Writing, Speaking, Reading, and Listening — on the web at ielts9.io and on iOS.

Is IELTS 9 the same as a Band 9 score?

No — IELTS 9 is the name of our preparation platform. A Band 9 is the highest IELTS score possible, awarded to candidates who use English with full operational command. Most candidates do not need a 9; universities typically ask for a 6.5, immigration programs for 6.0 to 7.0, and professional bodies for 7.0 to 7.5. We are named IELTS 9 because that is the band we help you push toward.

How accurate is the AI band score?

The AI is calibrated against the publicly published Cambridge / British Council / IDP band descriptors — the exact rubric real examiners use. In internal testing the predicted band correlates within ±0.5 of real examiner scores on more than 90% of Writing and Speaking responses.

How is this better than a private tutor?

A private tutor charges $30 to $60 per hour and returns one annotated essay in two to three days. IELTS 9 returns examiner-grade feedback on every essay, every cue-card response, and every mock test in about 60 seconds — for less than the price of a coffee per week. You can practise as much as you want, whenever you want.

What if I don't improve?

Students who practise consistently with IELTS 9 typically see a 0.5 to 1.0 band improvement within two to four weeks. The AI flags the exact criterion holding your band back — Task Achievement, Lexical Resource, Pronunciation, and so on — so you focus your time on what actually moves the score. Cancel anytime if it is not working for you.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Cancel directly from your account page in one click — no questions, no fees. You keep Pro until the end of your current billing period.

Does IELTS 9 work for both Academic and General Training?

Yes. The platform supports both Academic and General Training modules. Writing Task 1 switches between graphs/charts (Academic) and letters (General Training), and the Reading bank includes both Academic passages and General Training sections.

Is my data private?

Yes. Essays, recordings, and feedback are stored securely with row-level security on a SOC 2-compliant infrastructure. They are never shared and never sold. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the account page.
