Writing Task 1 del IELTS, gráfico circular: plantilla de Band 7 (con respuesta modelo)

Los gráficos circulares ponen a prueba tu capacidad para describir proporciones: qué fracción del total representa cada segmento. Muchos candidatos pierden puntos por enumerar cada porcentaje por separado en lugar de agrupar los segmentos en categorías con sentido. Esta plantilla lo soluciona.

Estructura de un gráfico circular de Band 7

Cuatro párrafos, 170-190 palabras:

1. Introduction: parafrasea el enunciado
2. Overview: los segmentos más grande y más pequeño, número total de categorías
3. Body 1: descripción detallada de los segmentos más grandes
4. Body 2: descripción detallada de los segmentos más pequeños (o comparación entre dos gráficos, si procede)

Paso 1: Subtipos de gráfico circular

Tres formatos habituales:

• Un solo gráfico circular: una instantánea de las proporciones
• Dos gráficos circulares: comparación entre épocas o grupos (por ejemplo, 2000 vs 2020)
• Varios gráficos circulares: tres o más comparaciones

Con varios gráficos necesitas un overview distinto, que recoja cómo cambiaron las proporciones de un gráfico a otro, y no solo cuál es el segmento más grande.

Paso 2: Parafrasea el enunciado

Original: "The pie chart shows the percentage of household expenditure on different categories in the UK in 2020."

Parafraseado: "The pie chart illustrates the proportion of total spending allocated to various categories by households in the UK during 2020."

Cambios de sinónimos: shows → illustrates, percentage → proportion, expenditure → spending, on different categories → allocated to various categories.

Paso 3: Escribe el overview

Para un solo gráfico circular: "Overall, [largest category] accounted for the largest share of household spending, while [smallest category] received the smallest portion. The remaining categories occupied middling positions in roughly equal proportions."

Para dos gráficos circulares (por ejemplo, 2000 vs 2020): "Overall, the proportion of spending on [Category X] increased significantly between 2000 and 2020, while [Category Y] declined. [Category Z] remained the largest share in both years."

Paso 4: Párrafo del cuerpo 1, segmentos más grandes

Agrupa los 2-3 segmentos principales. Usa vocabulario de proporciones:

"Housing represented the largest share of household expenditure at 32%, nearly a third of total spending. Food and groceries followed closely at 28%, meaning the two combined accounted for around 60% of the average UK household budget."

Paso 5: Párrafo del cuerpo 2, segmentos más pequeños

Agrupa los segmentos restantes:

"Transport and utilities each consumed roughly 12% of spending, while leisure activities took 8%. The smallest category was savings, accounting for just 5% of household expenditure, a notably low figure."

Variante con dos gráficos circulares

Si tienes dos gráficos (comparación entre épocas o grupos), estructura así:

• Body 1: las categorías que aumentaron entre los dos gráficos
• Body 2: las categorías que disminuyeron o se mantuvieron estables

Incluye siempre lenguaje de cambio: "rose from X% to Y%", "fell by half", "tripled in proportion", "remained at roughly the same level".

Errores comunes en los gráficos circulares

• Enumerar todos los porcentajes sin agruparlos
• Olvidar el overview
• Usar "amount" en lugar de "proportion" o "percentage" (los gráficos circulares muestran porciones, no totales)
• Escribir porcentajes sin contexto ("5%" a secas: di "5% of total spending")
